Psalm 8 Revisited

God is awe-inspiring and majestic.
When contemplating all that He has created,
it causes one to pause and wonder.
Why does He care so much for mere mankind?
Why does He care so much
that He would send
His only Son,
Jesus Christ to the cross
to die for the sins of all men.
How can we mere mortals deny His majesty
and the glory and honor due Him
when we realize how much he values us;
how much He treasures us?
He created us to be just a little lower than the angels,
placing us above all other elements of His creation.
We would do well to remember,
to reflect
and to worship
the Creator,
the Lord;
our God and Savior.

We have embarked on a study of Worship in church today. We are all called to worship.
As a member of the Worship Committee and the service planning team, I have a responsibility to assist our pastoral leadership in leading our congregation in worship. In such, I must strive to understand what worship is, why we as mankind are to worship, and what is expected of mankind in the responsibility we each have to worship. The Book of Psalms is an invaluable resource in the journey to this understanding of the concept of worship. A perusal of this book leads the reader through the greatest poetry ever written.
Psalm 8 is a reminder to mankind - a call to worship in itself.

Psalm 8

O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,the birds of the heavens,
and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
