Wordcraft

What is the motivation that causes some to search for just the right word, phrase, sentence to reveal what we are thinking; that challenges us to find a new way to express a thought, idea, or belief exclusive of “run of the mill”, oft-used words? What is it that compels one who delights in the written word not to fall prey to the use of the ordinary?
Is it the works of those past masters of the written word? Perhaps the desire to emulate their example? Is it the desire to create something worthy of the consideration of the reader. Or is it even yet the unwillingness to settle for or be content with common phraseology?
For me, it is the love of words and the search for yet another gem to add to my vocabulary ; that personal lexicon I utilize when communicating or revealing my ideas, innermost thoughts, hopes, and aspirations.
Would be that my knowledge and understanding of language would ever increase.

I was glad to receive your comment - and to read this post. Language seems to be part of the divine spark, that shows humanity is made in the image of God. Language is as you say complex and ever challenging. It shows our life has a spiritual dimension, not a merely physical one.
